About

I live with my husband on top of a hill in Western North Carolina. We are retired and use our time to grow much of our own food and are becoming more self-sufficient.  Our prepping has evolved over 30 years from primarily food storage to a more sustainable lifestyle.  We lived and worked most of our adult lives in and around large cities.  We are now happily settled in the country with no other houses in sight.

There is always something new to learn and experiment with.  I hope you will join us on our journey and add your knowledge and experience.

We live in Otto, NC, south of Franklin. Do you know of any preppers in our area?

    • Vina8 says:

Hi, Kim. There are many preppers in your part of the state. Earlier this year some friends and I attended a series of prepping seminars in Hendersonville. There were 100 to 200 people there. On June 18 this year there was a prepping one day seminar in Clyde, NC that over 200 people attended. That tells me there are many of us in western NC. I am quite a bit east of you. Recently, about 50 of us got together for a 3-day camp-out and prepping learning opportunity. It was a great time and a good chance to get to know other preppers.

There are other events being planned on the American Preppers Network, NC forum meet-up section: http://americanpreppersnetwork.net/viewforum.php?f=157. I hope this helps.

Hello we are a local business in Asheville Our mission is to offer self-reliance products and information to the greater Asheville area. We offer quality bulk foods, reliable knowledge and supplies needed to set up a personalized food storage system. We give classes on how to store food safely and effectively. We also offer ready-to-go food pails at our online store. Consulting services are available to address specific concerns or help customers determine how to meet their goals. Food prices are skyrocketing and weather-related events seem to become the new normal. Basic preparedness has become advisable.

I am glad you stopped by and like the blog, Charles. Thank you. There are some other preppers over in the Raleigh area that I know from the American Preppers Network on the NC forum. http://americanpreppersnetwork.net/viewforum.php?f=69 If you haven’t been there yet, I recommend you register and say hello. Let me know what kind of place you are looking for, and I will let you know if I become aware of anything in my area.

    • Vina8 says:

No, I don’t know anything about them. Post any information that can be made public. I know of a couple of preppers in the Charlotte area looking to meet-up with others.

    • Vina8 says:

Welcome to the blog and to prepping, nutnhuni4193! There are definitely some preppers in your area. I suggest you check out the NC forum on the American Preppers Network. There is a page for people to post meet-ups and you can see what is happening near Raleigh. Also read through some of the posts in “Check in here” page to look for people near you. http://americanpreppersnetwork.net/viewforum.php?f=69

A good place to learn where to start prepping is to read the posts in American Preppers Network under “How to start prepping (the Basics”. http://americanpreppersnetwork.net/viewforum.php?f=616

There are also prepping groups listed in meetup.com.
